Walk for Kids with Cancer 2026

I am walking for my beloved grandson Jesse. Team Jesse is back again. This is our 8th year. Our family and friends have walked in Jesse's memory since he passed away in 2019. Our darling little baby boy, forever young, loved forever.

I am walking for kids with cancer on Sunday 29 March 2026 for Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF). Funds raised from Walk for Kids with Cancer will go directly to the frontline of children’s healthcare across the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, including the Kids Cancer Centre at Randwick and the Cancer Centre for Children at Westmead.

Together we can help find answers to rare diseases like childhood cancer, faster ways to diagnose, support clinical trials, help build clinical and patient family-centered spaces in hospitals, and create positive patient experiences for kids and their families.

No child should ever go through cancer but those who do deserve our all.

The final chapter ...

Friday 27th Feb
Today .. The Spit to Manly ... DONE !
Oh gosh ... it wasn't fun!
School drop off ... Light rail to Wynyard ... then wait for the bus to The Spit!
40 minutes later it arrived !!!! (Bad Luck and annoying!)
I got to the Spit ... the bridge was up !!!! (Bad luck and annoying!)
Off I went into the bush ... it is SO beautiful ... lush and green and peaceful, just gorgeous! Little sprinkles of rain fell through the trees ... it was lovely ... AND THEN .... the little sprinkles turned into great dollops of rain !!!! (Bad luck and VERY annoying!!!) ... Yep ... soaked to the skin! Not a good look.
What could I do ??? Keep walking .... all the way to MANLY!
It was slow going, I gave up trying to avoid the muddles and in the end I just walked through them (Every kids dream but not really mine!!) ... very wet feet at the end! I couldn't do my usual 'many' stops  for a rest as everything was wet and I couldn't sit anywhere!! Anyway I kept going all the way to Manly ... my walk is DONE !
I was VERY happy to finish!
Good Luck ... Ron was working at Manly and I got a lift back to the car which saved me the embarrassment of going on public transport looking like a drowned rat... Haha

On another note ... YOU are my champions xxxxx
Yesterday I received $3711.00 in donations ... thank you from the bottom of my heart ... You are ALL TEAM JESSE xxxx

Speaking of TEAM JESSE ... we are smashing our goal ... so far $17,805 WOW ... WOW ... and WOW !!!

ps. I 'might' walk a bit of the walk on the 29 March with Alyssa and Luchi ... their first time walking in The Team.

Money Money Money

Monday 23rd Feb
As most of you know this is our 8th year of what we call "Jesse's walk" ... The walk is to raise money for Kids Cancer research and research is not something I thought about much until it affects you personally ... and boy did it affect our family.
We will never forget our little Jesse Boy ... he is imbedded in our hearts forever. We had so much hope for him ... for his recovery ... he ran out of time! .... that cure never came.
Our family and friends have raised $87005.00 collectively to date ... WOW ... that's AMAZING!
THANK YOU SO MUCH ... every dollar added up... and we couldn't do it without YOU.
I hope you are as proud as we are ... you are TEAM JESSE and we are so grateful for your love and support.
Our target this year is to reach $100,000 and I know we will make it.
We are already more than half way there to raising the $13,000 we need so if you can spare a dollar I will love you forever.
I still have the final section to walk ... The Spit to Manly ... not sure when that will happen but don't worry ... I'll make it !!!!

Taronga Zoo to the Spit

Sunday 15th Feb
I can't believe I did this .... but the very next day after I did the Quay to the Zoo I decided I had to take a chance with the weather and keep going because it was MEANT to be cool again !!!! It wasn't ... it turned out very humid but too late now !!!
Another late start because the first ferry doesn't go until 8.52am but what can I do .... just enjoy the ferry ride!!
Hi-ho, hi-ho off I go. I love, love, love the walking poles. I really don't think I could do it without them!! Those giant steps are now more giant (I know, I know ... I'm shrinking!!!!)  I took my time ... had lots of breaks ... lots of snacks ... lots of Kodak moments ... lots of memories .... lots of pain... that damn walk is hard!!! ... for me!
Anyway ... the humidity was NOT kind but I kept going ... 12.43km and 19,353 steps later I was so happy to see that bus coming  down the hill at The Spit.
One more section to go ... The Spit to Manly.
I'm proud of what I have done ... it has been a pretty big effort but so far so good!
I haven't asked for any donations YET .... that's coming... so my dear family and friends be assured I DO the walk for Jesse and I will keep on going whilst I can ... he would have LOVED his nanny as much as I love him. xxxx

Let it all begin !!!

Sunday 15th Feb
As most of you know I don't do the walk on the day ... I do my walk prior so I can be available to 'babysit' and juggle the family so the rest of TEAM JESSE can walk on the actual day 29 March.
Also ... there is no way I could make 30km these days ....not with these little short legs!!
I break the walk up and usually do it over three separate days and that is my plan again. There is a slightly new course this year but I will just stick with the oldie ... starting at the Quay.
I have been nervous about starting as I haven't been doing a lot of walking lately ... the usual 'old lady' complaints ... sore hips ... sore knees and sore feet!!! Oh dear, who would have thought !!!
BUT I had to try for my Jesse Boy so after watching the weather like a hawk (I didn't want to get heat stroke like last year) and being time poor like most I had to have a free day and Friday was the day!!
I usually like to start very early but I had to do school drop off which made the start very late for me arriving at the quay about 9am ... Off I went ...a bit of self doubt crept in but I had decided just do what I can and pick it back up the next day ....over the bridge I went .. I made it ... then slowly , slowly, VERY slowly off I went to the zoo.
Tim had brought me some walking poles (because all my kids think I can't make it and tell me not to do it!!!!!) ... the poles were fantastic ... they helped enormously ... so I DID make it!!
I am very slow ... I have LOTS of stops (every nice spot I take a seat for a few minutes haha) and I had decided I was REALLY going to embrace the walk and REALLY admire our beautiful  city and WOW it never disappoints. I love listening to all the accents as I walk along and I think how impressed these tourist must be ..... Sydney Harbour is pretty gorgeous!
I never forget why I am walking and I think of Jesse constantly... even after all these years I am still crying as I write this! Oh Little Jesse Boy .... our beautiful angel baby. If only there had of been a cure for you my darling boy..
Anyway my stop at Mosman Wharf cafe for coffee and a Portuguese tart is the best .... SO yummy. I have Jesse's face on a badge on my backpack and I look at that for inspiration to get up those damn hills that await and finally ... total joy ... I am on the ferry heading home !!

My beloved grandson Jesse

Wednesday 14th Jan
The walk is coming up and I am prepping myself for yet another challenge. A year older ... can I make it??
I will .... I will do it for my little Jesse Boy who never got a chance to grow a year older.
We miss him every day xxx
