I am walking for Mackie
Mackie lost his battle against brain cancer on the 1st June 2024. And after 5 months of living at Bear Cottage, with his family with him, he took his last breath. He spent six years in and out of hospital, sometimes months at a time, other times daily visits for radiation that would go for months at time or for daily rehab after the brain and spinal surgery. We had six months of chemotherapy and then a clinical trial where chemo could be administered at home but meant fortnightly hospital visits.
I am walking with Angus, Ava, Luisa and Amelie for kids with cancer on Sunday 29 March 2026 for Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation (SCHF).
We walk to remind ourselves that it is a gift to have our healthy bodies that are able to move the way we want them to. As a reminder, that Mackie wanted to be here, should be here and isn’t because of cancer. He had to do so many hard things.
