I’m walking 24 km for kids with cancer!
This Sunday, I’m taking on the challenge of walking 24 km to raise funds for the Sydney Children's Hospitals Foundation. Donations will go directly to the frontline of children’s healthcare across the Sydney Children’s Hospitals Network, including the Kids Cancer Centre at Randwick and the Cancer Centre for Children at Westmead.
When my beautiful Bradley was just three years old, he was diagnosed with leukaemia. He was immediately put on an aggressive cancer treatment plan, including chemotherapy, and spent much of 2021 in hospital, with the treatment lasting 2 1/2 years. During this time, we watched our bright, spirited boy endure some of the most heart-wrenching side effects of cancer treatment— muscle weakness, hair loss, mood swings, nausea, and rapid weight changes. It was devastating for Bradley and our whole family. How do you explain to a three-year-old that the medicine making them feel so sick is actually saving their life?
With your help, we can support research to find kinder and more effective treatments for kids with cancer. We can also help build welcoming, family-centred spaces in hospitals and create positive experiences for young patients and their families. No child should ever go through cancer like Bradley did, but those who do deserve our support.
